Dormiria is the God of Dreams and aims to protect the value of such. While she happily serves dreams on Tael, she also makes sure that the people aspire to achieve those dreams and not just enjoy that false reality that dreams are.
Role
Dormiria grants the People on Tael the ability to dream. Additionally, she has the duty of making sure that people do not abuse those dreams and continue living their normal lives as well, as dreams can be seen as an alternative perfect reality for the individual.
Appearance
Golden Dream Form
Dormirias' physical form resembles an elven lady in a beautiful golden dress sitting on a sickle moon. Her skin is light and her eyes a deep blue. Her hair is smooth and blonde, braided into one long strand reaching just below her chest.
First Nightmare Form
While only an Illusion to the dreamer, Dormirias Nightmare Form consists of a black, slightly rugged dress and messy dark black hair that barely reaches the shoulders. Her eyes have turned completely black and her skin has become completely pale with clearly visible bloody veins everywhere. The moon she usually sits on is now a fearsome but dull-looking scythe.
Life on Tael
She sometimes appears in her golden dream form in people's dreams to guide them towards achieving those dreams. However, people who are on the brink of losing their ability to dream will see her slowly but steadily resembling her Nightmare form more and more. Ultimately, her eyes turning completely black acts as a final warning for people to wake up on their own and actually partake in life again, maybe even start following their dreams.
If they are still dreaming at that point, they will forcefully wake up, only to not be able to dream again until they actually achieve their original dream, no matter how ambitious it may be. If they so dare, people can ask Dormirias Nightmare form for advice, basically giving them one last chance to get on the right track.
History
Dormiria crashed down on Tael during the Voidwar. That night, most life was fast asleep and suddenly started dreaming; dreaming of beautiful scenery, a better life, a family, a successful hunt, anything really. The dreams felt so real that when people woke up, they felt an immeasurable disappointment. While some took it as a motivation to achieve these dreams, many tried to go back to sleep, to never wake up again and forever live in their dreams. At first, Dormiria was glad that her spark was so easily accepted by the world.
However, that happiness faded quickly when people stopped waking up. She knew this couldn't continue, and was quickly confirmed in her doubts when Tael himself reached out to her. And so she had to revise the concept of dreams to make it compatible with this world. People who solely rely on living in their dreams will sooner than later stop dreaming altogether, whereas people who actively follow their dreams are rewarded by continuous dreams. While this solution worked for the world in itself, for Dormiria, it was the equivalent of a shattered Dream, and what at first seemed like an uncurable wound to her was eventually overcome due to Tempus' introduction of Time to the world. She eventually accepted her role as not the Giver of Dreams, but rather as the Guardian of such, to protect the people from inadvertently abusing the dreams.
"Dreams are a powerful tool, but just dreams, after all. It is the individual's duty to make them come true."
