Life and Soul
The terms Life and Soul appear pretty often throughout the world of Tael, however it very important to know what exactly they mean, as they have two very distinct roles in the worlds mechanisms.
Description
It is well established that Tael is the bringer of Life; every single creature on this world has been granted its life by him. But what exactly is a life?
When Tael gives something a Life, he actually splits off a tiny fraction of his energy, which contains the rudimentary basics of all the concepts and thoughts that make up the world of Tael. While these parts are split off, they are their own unique entity, independent from Tael. These basics are given a husk in the form of a creature that could be everything: a newborn human, the seeds of an apple tree, a freshly laid egg, or a new Voidling. While everyone has the same basic starting point of understanding of the world, its concepts, and everything around it, what kind of creature they are and how and where they grow up ultimately influence the evolution of that life. For example, a tree can neither see, hear, or speak, so all the concepts revolving around those senses will never develop. It can, however, feel the winds brushing against its leaves, the cold of a harsh winter, or the refreshing water of a rainy summer day. It will experience all those concepts, learn from them, and maybe even build upon them. On the other hand, for example, a human could grow up in a high and noble society, protected from the forces of nature, or be born in the slums, where it needs to learn to adapt to the seasons and other dangers that could lurk outside. A human will develop the concepts it interacts more with, and may eventually find concepts it finds joy with, and develops those even further.
Those developments are what turn a life, a basic concept of everything, into a soul, an amalgamation of experiences and developments that turn every single life into something unique. It is almost impossible for two lives to develop into the exact same soul, as even the smallest nuances can impact the entire life.
When a life reaches its end time, mostly due to its husk (aka the body) being unable to contain the soul anymore, the soul is, in most cases, carried over by Mementora into the Nachwelt, a realm that harbours all the souls ever developed on Tael. However, in order for Tael to sustain himself, he only demands the part of the soul back that brought it to life, so the very basic concepts of the soul. That usually results in the soul forgetting all the very basic concepts it never really developed, but will keep all the highly developed experiences as the basic parts are basically an unnoticable fraction at that point.
