A small snake that has specialized in traversing through fine sand. Their bite can paralyze small creatures.

Habitat

Dunevipers can be found in desert dunes. The fine sand allows them to traverse through it swiftly, like birds in the sky. One can identify an area of Duneviper activity by sand that is a lot finer then usual and many occasional holes every now and then.

Anatomy

At most 1 meter in length, Dunevipers have almost fin-like extensions on their heads and two long, sharp teeth capable of injecting paralyzing poison into their prey. The fins not only help with accelerating through the sand, but they also act as a membrane to detect vibrations and locate potential prey precisely. Dunevipers have no eyes, as they spent most of their lives underground and rely entirely on their fins for orientation.

Behaviour

Instinctively hunts in large groups to overwhelm even larger preys. They usually hide in the sand until they can get a jump at the foes feet to try and paralyze them. Afterwards they just keep biting it until it stops resisting.

They occasionally jump out of the sand to catch a breath, though they require very little air. When mating, they lay their eggs deep inside the sand, making it nearly impossible for other predators to find.

Abilities

Bite

Bites the target, dealing 1d4 Piercing Damage and may applies the paralyzed status effect for 2 turns unless the target succeeds a Constitution 6 check.
