The Language of Magic
Used by spellcasters to cast their magic, the language of magic is based entirely on the first language of the World, Voidish.
Structure
Most spells follow a fixed structure consisting of an optional prefix, a main body, an optional suffix, and an optional addition. A conjunction may be added in between the parts if the pronunciation would otherwise feel weird.
[Size]Spellbody[Intensity] [Addition]
Size
The suffix of the spell defines the affected area of said spell.
Prefix | Translation | Conjunction | Meaning |
---|---|---|---|
Vo | Nothingness
Emptiness |
-d | The smallest possible area, affecting only an Infinitely small point. Use cases, for example, include cantrips like igniting a candle or planting messages into someone's mind. |
Pik | Point | -o | Affects an approximately fist-sized area. Use cases, for example, include small transmutations and more minor, precise offensive magic. |
- | - | - | The Neutral form of spellcasting affects exactly one entity. Use cases include nearly everything from protection spells to offensive magic. |
Ari | Many | -l | An enhanced form of spellcasting. Affects the area of a whole room or a small group. |
Lor | Unbound
Infinite |
-d | The most powerful form of spellcasting only very few are actually capable of pulling off. Can affect anything from a whole city to the entire world. |
Spellbody
Spell bodies are the core of each spell. It defines the school of magic that the spell uses. For the specific Spellbodies for each school, see the corresponding school of magic.
Intensity
The Intensity of the spell determines the level of effect the spell will achieve. The overall intensity is usually equally dispersed over the affected area, meaning a Piko spell will be much more effective on the spot than an Aril spell with the same Intensity. This dispersion can be nullified with an additional -[u]gora suffix. With the ugora suffix, both Piko and Aril would have the same Intensity.
Suffix | Translation | Conjunction | Meaning |
---|---|---|---|
Bil | Lesser | a- | The weakest form of any school of magic. |
- | - | - | The default form of any spell. |
Kaga | Greater | i- | A more intense form of spell casting. |
Tor | Mighty | e- | The most intense form of spell casting. |
Gora | Constant
Static |
u- | This causes the intensity of the spell not to be dispersed over its affected area anymore but rather to have its full intensity over the entire area. |
Addition
Depending on the School of Magic, a spell might require additional parameters to clarify its intention. These are purely dependent on the school of said spell. Very common schools that require additions for nearly every spell are the school of trickery and the school of mind.
